Life is busy, but art keeps me going! Here is the most recent dump of work I’ve created for the semester. Almost done with my Silkscreen 2 project, so should be able to post that product soon! Some work from workshops, Head painting class and Still Life 2. Been experimenting more with texture, while trying to focus on value much more. I really, really need to work on my draftmanship – for being an Illustrator, it is almost always my drawings that brings my paintings down!

I promise at one point I’ll post some more work….! Have a few head studies here, though. I’ll post some more still-lifes and animal drawings in a few days, but you’re not allowed to see my Silkscreen project until its done…..!

Having the busiest semester of my life….! If I ever thought I knew what busy was before, boy, did I redefine that word this semester! I’m taking 4 studio classes, while working of course. I’m really trying to push myself in observation and patience. Also, lessons in procrastination have helped out too! (no more last-minute 4 week paintings for me!)

Here are some still-lifes and head paintings I’ve done so far. Really digging palette knife…..keep an eye out for more of those! (Also a neat render of a horse I did for my animal anatomy class….!)

Not dead, just tired. New semester, new projects……..

Been gone in Europe all summer, with no way to really update! Sorry everyone (and by this, I mean the 7 people who actually look at this….!).

I’m by no means a landscape painter, and this is made even more aware to me when you’re companion is as talented as Martin. But, I really enjoy combining my two favorite things in the world, art and other cultures. So, this naturally leads me to travelling and painting as I go! Its a wonderful way to really get to know a city, instead of just browsing around you are really studying the way things look and how they differ from other cities in terms of color, lighting, architecture, temperature, weather, etc etc. Its really great! And, locals often are very interested in what you’re doing, so its a wonderful way to meet new people too.  But, alas, I am actually pretty bad! But, I feel like this summer I grew a lot, and am hoping to only improve. Its kind of interesting when your “hobby” and job are in the same area, it just means I do art all the time!

They were all done with acrylics, which was also a new medium for me. It took a long time to get used to it, and the new palette combination I was recommended. Everything was just different enough to be angry when things didn’t turn out well! I also was using my new Plein air painters box, provided from Artwork Essentials, and my mother for a birthday present! (It was a wonderful determent from being reminded that I’m getting older….!)

Here are the ones I liked the best, out of some 60 I did in the months I was away.

Also, here is another work from my Decorative Illustration class.  I also printed a prototype, which only cost me like $80,000 as I was in Norway at the time.  Enjoy!

Long time no talk! I’m currently touring Europe with Martin (http://martinmuasethhvattum.blogspot.com), and don’t have much access to the internet. This of course, then, would be the BEST time for me to be taking not one, but TWO classes online.  Here are my first two illustrations from Decorative illustration, which focuses on palpable art, such as stickers cards and tshirts.

The first was a design for a t-shirt to sell ourselves, the second a set of 9 stickers.

I’ll try to update more with the numerous sketches I’ve been doing and the plein-air studies, but I guess we’ll both just have to wait!

Here are some newer drawings. This one was a 15 minute drawing done in the final workshop of the semester.

These were done during a Plein Air trip Martin and I took (http://martinmausethhvattum.blogspot.com) down to Hayes Valley. Really cool to draw this way, think I might do more of it in Europe this summer.

And lastly, some drawings from my silkscreen final. The actual print itself turned out horrendous, so you will NOT be seeing it uploaded here, but I really did like my drawings used. So, here are some of the line arts used! Type was placed in the “deader” areas of these images, also.

Here are some more paintings! Some of them are older, but when I cleaned out my locker I found some older paintings I thought were still pretty cool. This one below was the final for my quick studies class. Turned out pretty cool!

Here are the other quick studies, some are older and some are from the last few sessions. Can you guess which ones are older? All were done in less than 40 minutes.

Recently took an excursion to the zoo….forgot how much fun it was! Definitely view things differently when you’re there to draw the animals instead of just looking at them and moving on. Its interested to think “What makes this animal this animal instead of any other?”, like why is a zebra unlike any other animal (besides the stripes….!). Well, here is a collection of my sketches, and some other animal “icons” I drew later on.

So, I do promise I have more to upload. I’ve been having some chronic medical problems (on top of me now getting a cold…ugh, when it rains it pours!), and time has been scarce these last few weeks.  I promise to upload a bunch in this next week, as I’m going to be in Europe all summer painting, and won’t be able to update as often. (yeah, like I do at all now!)

Here is my final spot illustration for my editorial class, its based on a piece about the country’s first FULL facial reconstruction. (The man under the knife literally had no face – only a slit for a mouth, and they gave him eyes, a nose, ears, lips, hair, everything. It is a really, really cool thing.) Couldn’t decide on a background, so I offered 4.
